About this scholarship
The Ruby Lee Progression scholarship will be awarded to an international student with ambition and ability, allowing them to have a transformational experience at the Â̲èÖ±²¥. It will provide an international postgraduate scholarship for an applicant to the History of Design and Material Culture MA course.
The scholarship will provide a £18,000 grant that will cover international student fees (£15,900) plus a stipend for living or course expenses (£2,100).
The award is generously supported and funded by the Zepi Tepi Fund via the .
Applications for 2024 are now closed. The Ruby-Lee progression scholarship will next be available for people starting this course in 2025. Information will be posted here in May 2025.

How to apply
You can only apply for the Ruby Lee Progression scholarship once you have applied for History of Design and Material Culture MA. You'll find an Apply Online link on the course page.
The Ruby Lee Progression scholarship application form will ask you to write three 200-word statements covering the following points.
- How will the scholarship transform your personal and professional development?
- What are your main interests in the study of the history of design and material culture?
- What do you plan to do after completing the course?
Applications will be evaluated by a panel made up of university faculty members. They will assess your application in relation to you:
- communication skills
- demonstrated academic interest and achievement
- commitment to the field of design history and material culture.
The scholarship is intended to nurture ambition and ability; it is not made purely on the basis of academic excellence. Please note that you may reuse material from your application for a place on the MA.
Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their studentship application by early August 2024. The decision of the panel is discretionary and final.
Data protection
Your form, with name and contact details removed, will be shared with the scholarship judges. The form and the data therein will be destroyed in October 2024.
